Solar?

by
Solar energy for the home.  I must admit, I’ve thought a lot about it.  I’ve even done a little research on the topic of residential solar panels, and found one bit of discouraging information.  It’s expensive.  I mean, we’re talking $16,000 to $45,000 for the average sized home!   That’s a lot more than the average homeowner can afford.  I wondered if it’s like the electronics industry, where when something is new (like plasma tv’s) it’s ridiculously priced.  Remember when plasma tv’s were $10,000?  Now they’re even bigger, and the price has dropped dramatically.  Maybe the same will happen with […]

Why pay for home improvement when you can do it yourself?

by
Why pay for home improvement when you can do it yourself? There has been a decline in consumer confidence in the building and construction industry. This may be the same reason why many homeowners are now doing home improvement by themselves. Why not? A little knowledge of the technical aspects combined with the eye for creativity is enough to do the home improvement on your own. Why are people turning to do-it-yourself home improvement? Many construction workers who do not have a lot of experience or expertise in construction or home maintenance are out there right now trying to work […]

In Memory of My Hero

by
2010 brought with it many joyous and happy times, but it also brought a time of deep sorrow and loss.  My Dad passed away on October 17, 2010.  He was truly my hero, my support, my cheerleader.   One of the greatest qualities he had was his ability to see the good in people; especially his family.  None of us are perfect, but rather than dwell on our inperfections, he chose to dwell on what we did well.  He was a joy to be around.  Though he was 93 years old; almost 94, he was sharp as a tack right […]

Snow for Christmas!

by
in Blog
It doesn’t happen too often that snow falls at Christmas in South Carolina, so I thought the fact that it did this year was significant enough to show you some pictures of this wonderful home surrounded by snow! About 4 inches of snow fell on Christmas night.  Though I’m not a huge fan of snow (I grew up in New England), it is nice to see at Christmas time.  It is my personal hope that it is the last snow we’ll see here this winter! I hope you enjoy the pic.  I had to get out pretty early in the […]

What’s The Point?

by
in Blog
You might be asking yourself, what’s the point of this blog?  Well, this is what I am passionate about; renovating my beautiful old late 1800’s farmhouse.  I can visualize exactly the way I want it to be down to the smallest of details.  I have spent countless hours searching for particular elements, whether they be fabrics, furnishings, or colors.  Those are my favorite “toys”. So what’s the point?  I want to finish this project in a more timely manner.  You see, it has been nearly 3 years, with the most work being done in the first 30 days and the […]

Massive Undertaking = Overwhelm

Massive Undertaking = Overwhelm Have you ever had great ideas, and then when they start coming to reality, you wonder if you have it in you to actually do it?  That’s exactly where I was nearly 3 years ago.   (I can’t believe it’s been that long!) It was February 14, 2007 when we left Cape Cod after loading a semi tractor trailer to the brim with my parent’s belongings and headed South.  Oh, and there was a major winter storm starting, too.   It was cold, icy, and visibility was very low.  We didn’t make it very far that […]
